IRS Tax-Exempt Status
Meyer grantees must be nonprofit organizations with tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and organized and operated for charitable purposes.
Geographic location
Meyer grantees must be located within and primarily serving the Washington, DC region, which is defined as
- Washington, DC
- Calvert County, Maryland
- Charles County, Maryland
- Montgomery County, Maryland
- Prince George's County, Maryland
- St. Mary's County, Maryland
- Arlington County, Virginia
- City of Alexandria, Virginia
- City of Falls Church, Virginia
- City of Manassas Park, Virginia
- City of Manassas, Virginia
- Fairfax County, Virginia
- Loudoun County, Virginia
- Prince William County, Virginia
- Stafford County, Virginia

What Meyer Does Not Fund
The Meyer Foundation generally does not fund:
- Individuals, either through scholarships or other forms of financial assistance
- Scientific or medical research
- Programs that promote religious doctrine
- Special events or conferences
- Endowments
7 Reasons You Might Not Qualify for Meyer Funding
- You are requesting funding for an individual, a government agency, or a for-profit business, rather than a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status.
- Your organization's work happens outside of the Washington, DC region.
- Your organization's work falls outside of Meyer's program areas.
- Your organization's work promotes a religious cause.
- Your organization's work is scientific or medical research.
- Your organization's work focuses on animal welfare.
- Your organization is seeking funding for a special event.
